42nd District baseball: Bryan Station, Scott County advance

Bryan Station, which trailed Henry Clay 4-0 going to the bottom of the sixth, rallied for a 5-4 victory in the 42nd District baseball semifinals Monday night.

Elijah Burdette capped the host Defenders' comeback with a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh that drove in Justin Chlebowy with the tying run and Michael Morton with the winning run.

Scott County beat Sayre 11-1 in Monday's nightcap.

Junior Matt Gregory had a big night for Scott County. He earned the pitching win by going six innings, scattering six hits and striking out 13. He also went 4-for-4 at the plate, including two doubles and three RBI.

Alden Gruchow also went 4-for-4 for the Cardinals, with two doubles and four RBI.

The first game went down to the wire.

Henry Clay took a 1-0 lead in the second, pushed its advantage to 3-0 in the fifth and 4-0 in the top of the sixth.

Blue Devils' senior Ian Hays had a shutout going until Bryan Station got two runs in sixth. He gave way to Michael DeJesus in the seventh.

Trae Moseley started on the mound for the host Defenders. Nick Hodges came on in relief in the fifth. Michael Hall, who came in to pitch in the sixth, got the win.

Bryan Station will play Scott County in the district finals at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Both teams will advance to the 11th Region tournament at Madison Central next week.
