This weekend's kickoffs

City games

Friday

Central (0-1) at Lafayette (0-1), 7:30 p.m.: Central, which has won five of the last six Class 3A state titles, lost to 6A Manual 17-7 last week. When Lafayette played Central in 2010, it drove to the Yellowjackets' 1-yard line but couldn't punch it in as time expired in a 25-19 loss.

East Jessamine (0-1) at Paul Laurence Dunbar (0-1), 7:30: East Jessamine lost to South Oldham 30-8 last week. Dunbar beat the Jaguars 28-7 last season.

Henry Clay (0-0) vs. Pike Central (0-0) in Pike County Bowl at Belfry, 6 p.m.: Class 3A Pike Central has never played a 6A opponent before. Henry Clay's last visit to the Pike County Bowl was a 31-0 win over Pikeville in 2006.

Lexington Christian (0-1) at Estill County (0-1), 7:30: LCA tries to bounce back from a 38-13 loss at Louisville Christian. Estill County's loss to Morgan County last week was its 13th in a row.

Moore (0-1) at Tates Creek (1-0), 7:30: Moore, which lost to Southern last week, hasn't had a winning season since 2001. Tates Creek hasn't played a Louisville public school since it beat Ballard in 2006.

Saturday

Bowling Green (1-0) vs. Bryan Station (1-0) in Bluegrass Bowl at Lexington Catholic, 5:30: Bowling Green has never played the Defenders in football before, but there are ties between the schools. Dan Haley, who coached the Purples to a state title in 1995, got his first head coaching job at Bryan Station in the late 1960s. Current Defenders assistant Cisco Bryant was an all-state receiver at Bowling Green in the early 1980s.

St. Xavier (1-0) at Lexington Catholic (0-1) in Bluegrass Bowl, 8:30: Since the Knights upset St. X 19-14 in 2003, they've lost to the Tigers seven times in a row. St. X beat Lexington Catholic 37-0 in their last meeting in 2010. That's the last time the Knights were shut out.

Somerset (0-1) at Belfry (0-0) in Pike County Bowl, 8:30: The last time these teams met, Belfry clipped Somerset 28-23 in the Class 3A semifinals. Somerset has since dropped to 2A.

Saturday

Hazard (0-0) at Pikeville (1-0) in Pike County Bowl: This might be an early preview to a late-round Class A playoff game.
