Friday's kickoffs

All games begin at 7:30 p.m., unless noted

City games

No. 15 Bryan Station (1-2) at Tates Creek (4-1): Bryan Station should be well rested. It had an open date last week, and its game against Bowling Green the second week of the season was canceled because of storms. Tates Creek has blanked two of its last four opponents after having two shutouts in its previous 93 games.

Frankfort (2-2) at Lexington Christian (1-4): Panthers sophomore QB Anthony Robinson has thrown for 720 yards, seven TDs. LCA was 1-4 in 2011 before it beat Frankfort the sixth week of the season.

Lafayette (1-4) at No. 22 Henry Clay (4-0): The Generals have beaten Henry Clay four out of last five years and hold a 35-31-2 edge in the 66-year-old rivalry. Lafayette starting QB Clay Bolin is out with a broken collarbone. Backup QB Johnny Fangmeyer is also injured, leaving Coach Eric Shaw in a quandary. Last season Henry Clay surrendered 117 points in its first four games. It has given up 33 so far this year.

Madison Central (1-4) at Paul Laurence Dunbar (3-2): Since going 8-2 in the 2005 regular season, Dunbar hasn't had more than three regular-season wins in a year. The Bulldogs can achieve that if it can beat a young Madison Central team.

Mercer County (3-2) at No. 6 Lexington Catholic (3-2): Knights QB Reese Ryan, who completed 50 percent of his throws last season, is hitting 62 percent this year and has already matched last season's TD pass total (15). Mercer County has lost to No. 17 Anderson County and No. 25 Central Hardin since starting the season 3-0.

Top state games

Bell County (3-2) at Wayne County (5-0): Wayne County is 24-5 over the last three years, with three of those losses to Bell County.

No. 3 Highlands (5-0) at No. 5 Covington Catholic (3-1), Saturday 1 p.m.: Since 2007 Highlands is 87-1 against Kentucky competition, including a 9-0 mark against CovCath. This will be the third Saturday game in a row for Highlands.
