Dunbar, Madison Central, Clark Co. win state cheer championships

Paul Laurence Dunbar, Mercy Academy, Madison Central, Clark County and Bullitt Central won state titles Saturday at the second annual KHSAA Competitive Cheer Championships at Lexington's Alltech Arena.

Dunbar won the all-girl large division with a score of 274.4, finishing ahead of second-place Greenup County and third-place Conner.

Mercy was champion of the all-girl medium category with 278.4 points, beating out Ryle and Letcher County Central.

Madison Central was No. 1 among all-girl small teams with 282.6 points, narrowly beating out Madisonville (281.4) and Somerset (276.3).

Clark County took the all-girl super-large division with 274.3 points, besting Henry Clay and Pleasure Ridge Park.

Bullitt Central captured the coed category with 273.5 points, finishing ahead of Graves County and Owensboro.
