High school hoops highlights: Clay County girls edge Dunbar in Gateway Holiday Classic

Clay County's Ajaycia Cotton scored with 17 seconds left to go to give the Tigers a 54-52 win against Paul Laurence Dunbar in the Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery County. Cotton hit nine of 19 attempts for 23 points. Kristen Rosen hit three three-pointers and led the Bulldogs with 12 points.

Dee Givens went 8-for-8 at the line and finished with 19 points and four assists in Lafayette's 53-37 victory against Clark County in the Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery County.

■ East Carter rolled to a 63-40 victory against host Montgomery County in the Gateway Holiday Classic. The Lady Raiders' defense forced 31 turnovers. Haley Hall scored a game-high 22 points and Kristen Mayo had 17 points and five steals.

Braxton Price scored 17 points and T'Laya Lyvers had 13 as Henry Clay routed Sheldon Clark 63-45 at Nelson County. Lyvers also had nine rebounds.

■ Sayre jumped out to a 15-0 lead and cruised to a 46-12 victory against Burgin in the Kentucky Country Day Holiday Classic. Ellie Alford led the way with 11 points. Sandra Skinner had 17 points, 10 rebounds and four steals in the Cardinals' loss.

Boys' highlights:

David McCorvey scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in West Jessamine's 60-52 defeat of Tates Creek in the Berea Invitational quarterfinals. Siah Holifield added 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Colts.

The Commodores' Trey Sturdivant had 19 points and five assists, and Isaiah Patterson had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Trent Thompson's 20 points and 12 rebounds helped Harrison County defeat host Montgomery County 52-45 in the Gateway Holiday Classic. Caswell Fuller scored 22 points to go with six assists and two steals in the Indians' loss.

Harrison Lane hit four three-pointers and finished with 20 points and four rebounds in Lafayette's 64-48 victory against Clinton County in the Gateway Holiday Classic. The Generals' Ross Jenkins nearly had a double-double with 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

■ Lincoln County, which led by as many as 12 points, held on for a 51-49 victory against Mason County in the Gateway Holiday Classic. Jacob Conway had 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the Patriots' win. Dorian Henry had 18 points, 14 boards and four blocked shots for the Royals.
