A series of lightning delays on Monday forced a shift in the boys' schedule for the 43rd District tournament at Lafayette.
The first-round game between Tates Creek and Lexington Christian, which the Commodores led 2-1, never resumed after going to halftime. It will be completed Tuesday night beginning at 7 p.m.
The semifinals — Lafayette vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar at 6 p.m. and Lexington Catholic vs. the first-round game winner at 8 — will now be played Wednesday.
The championship game is still scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. The participants will advance to the 11th Region tournament at Frankfort next week.
At about 9:30 the hosts began notifying the public via social media. Coaches and media received an email notice later Monday night.
Girls' 43rd District
Tates Creek upended Lafayette 4-1 in the first-round game on Monday.
Ally Poage had a hat trick for the tournament-host Commodores (12-9), who scored their most goals this season since their last meeting with Lafayette (1-19) on Sept. 21. Tates Creek won that game 9-0.
Sydney Isaccs also scored for Tates Creek. Maddie Covey, Sydney Disponette and Izzy Verones each had an assist.
Tates Creek will face No. 1 seed Lexington Catholic at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Paul Laurence Dunbar vs. Lexington Christian will follow at 8 p.m. Those winners each advance to the district finals and 11th Region tournament at Madison Southern next week.
Girls' 42nd District
The girls' 42nd District tournament kicks off tonight, beginning with Henry Clay vs. Sayre at 6 p.m. and Scott County vs. Bryan Station to follow at 8 p.m.
The championship game is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m.
The boys' 42nd District tournament begins Wednesday at 6 p.m. Henry Clay will take on Scott County before Sayre and Bryan Station meet at 8 p.m.
The boys' title bout will follow the girls' game on Thursday.
