The start time of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA State Baseball Tournament championship game has been moved to 11 a.m. Saturday due to concerns related to heat, the KHSAA announced Thursday.
The finals originally were scheduled to begin 1 p.m. Saturday. Because of a potential for heat index delays, the schedule adjustment was discussed during a conference call between the KHSAA and the remaining four semifinalists. The time change was approved by each head coach still participating in the tournament.
In addition to alleviating possible safety concerns for participants and fans, the move to 11 a.m. lessens the likelihood of any potential conflict with the Lexington Legends, who are scheduled to host the Hagerstown Suns at 6:35 p.m. Saturday evening.
Friday’s semifinals schedule was unchanged. Marion County and Simon Kenton will play at 11 a.m. for a berth to Saturday’s championship game. McCracken County and Pleasure Ridge Park are scheduled to begin play at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Both semifinals and the finals will be held at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington. The Legends are scheduled to host Hagerstown at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
