Larry Poynter is stepping down as baseball coach at Paul Laurence Dunbar.
Poynter told his team the news on Wednesday, the day after the Bulldogs lost to Lafayette in the 43rd District semifinals.
"It's time for a change, not only for me but for the Dunbar baseball program," Poynter said Wednesday night.
Poynter was 113-67 in five years with the Bulldogs, including 27 victories this season, the most since Dunbar won the state title in 2007.

This was a difficult spring for the Bulldogs after senior first baseman Travis Gaines was seriously injured in a diving accident while the team was on a spring break trip to Florida. The coaches and players dedicated the season to Gaines.
Poynter is leaving the Dunbar program, but he doesn't want to stop coaching.
"If the opportunity comes along, I want to coach again," he said. "I love baseball."
