The Road to the Sweet Sixteen narrows beginning Monday night as high school basketball regional tournaments tip off around Kentucky.
Sixty-four girls’ and 64 boys’ teams remain in the hunt for state championships, with the girls’ Sweet Sixteen scheduled for March 7-11 at Northern Kentucky University and the boys’ Sweet Sixteen set for March 14-18 in Rupp Arena.
The regional champions headed for those events will be sorted out over the next nine days.
Defending state champions Bowling Green (boys) and Mercer County (girls) both remain in the hunt for repeat titles. Bowling Green (21-10) opens 4th Region Tournament play Wednesday night against Clinton County at Western Kentucky University. Mercer County (29-3) opens 12th Region Tournament action Tuesday night against Rockcastle County at Lincoln County.

According to Dave Cantrall’s Rating the State, the Covington Catholic boys (28-4) and Campbell County girls (28-3) are the top-ranked teams in Kentucky entering regional play.
