Republic Bank Holiday Classic

St. Xavier's Matt Lorh scored 15 points off the bench and Nick Spalding added 14 in the Tigers' 45-37 win over Hazard in the third-place game of the Republic Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic. Robert Warren had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs, ranked No. 10 in the Herald-Leader's pre-season coaches' poll.

Trinity overcame a slow start to beat Lexington Christian 58-43 in the fifth-place game. Josh Sewell led the Shamrocks with 19 points, while Grant Spark had 15 points for the Eagles.

Boone County had 10 players score in a 56-34 victory over Adair County in the seventh-place game. Steven McFarland led the way with nine points for the Rebels, who trailed 17-9 after the first quarter.

■ Jeramie Conner scored 19 points e_SEmD making five of 12 three-point attempts e_SEmD as Newport Central Catholic beat Hopkins County Central 49-37 in the ninth-place game.

■ Prince Stewart scored 21 points in Henry Clay's 51-49 loss to host Franklin-Simpson at the Best of the Best Hoops Classic. Stewart made five three-pointers in the loss. He had six treys and finished with 25 points earlier in the afternoon in the Blue Devils' 79-47 over Clarksville Academy (Tenn.).

■ Joe Fain scored 19 points, and Charles Ashford had 14 points and eight rebounds for No. 17 Bryan Station in a 68-47 win over Gate City (Va.) in the Arby's Classic at Bristol, Tenn. The Defenders had a 41-14 advantage on the boards, and forced 26 turnovers. Andrew Adams had 15 rebounds and four blocks for the winners.

■ Will Smith scored 29 points in Frankfort's 65-59 victory over Wanneroo (Australia) in the Rocket Invitational at Shelby County.

■ Alex Ives made five of seven three-point attempts and finished with 19 points as Covington Catholic pulled out a 54-47 victory over No. 25 Owensboro in the Gaslight Classic at Jeffersontown. Luke Maile led the Colonels (3-7) with 20 points. Owensboro (8-2), which made no treys in eight attempts, got 14 points from Darnell Davis.

■ At Union County, Tenn., Somerset prevailed 92-88 in overtime after Skylar McBee put in a 24-foot shot with six seconds left for Granger County (Tenn.) to send the game to overtime. The Briar Jumpers got 22 points from senior forward Derek Daniel.

■ Russ Middleton was named MVP of the Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic after scoring 20 points in No. 11 Mason County's third victory in the tournament, a 50-44 overtime win against Winton Woods (Ohio).

■ No. 2 Holmes won the Lloyd Memorial Invitational after a 55-42 victory over Henderson County. Elijah Pittman was named tournament MVP.

■ Tobe Barnett had 22 points and 12 rebounds as host Sayre held off Kentucky Country Day 55-48 in the Gene Kirk Classic. Ryan Brady added 17 points for the Spartans.

Eastern improved to 12-0 with a 42-33 victory over Chattanooga Baylor in the Monticello Bank Classic. Chris Dowe and Delquan Thomas led the Eagles with 10 points apiece.

First-year school Cooper got its first win in history, 55-45 over South Central (Ind.) in the Rocket Invitational at Shelby County. Matthew Storey led the Jaguars (1-7) with 13 points, Dvontae Bradley had 12 and Seth Quinlan had 10.

■ Boomer Beckley scored 10 points and was named MVP after Shelby County won its own Rocket Invitational with a 66-54 victory over Butler in the finals.


■ Alex Jones scored 16 points as No. 3 Elizabethtown (10-1) wrapped up the Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic championship with a 61-42 victory over Cypress Bay (Fla.).

■ No. 7 Paul Dunbar got nine points and 12 board from Ebony Rowe in a 66-52 loss to Stonewall Jackson (Va.) in the Rock Holiday Classic at Orlando, Fla.

Madison Central made 13 of 16 free throws to keep Henry Clay at bay in a 54-50 victory at the Titan Christmas Clash at Mercer County. Lyndsay Jones led the winners with 15 points. Eastern Kentucky signee Brittany Coles had 20 points for the Blue Devils.

■ Mitch McLeish scored 19 points as Ryle held off West Carter 54-50 in the Powell County Tournament. Aaron Rayburn led West Carter with 17 points.

■ Jared Martin set career highs in points (20) and rebounds (8) as Harrison County beat Bracken County 76-65 in the fifth-place game of the Bracken County Invitational. Martin, a junior guard, also had seven assists.

■ Ben Prewitt scored 11 points in the fourth quarter as Whitley County overcame a nine-point deficit in the period to top Pineville 59-58 in the Black Bear Holiday Tournament at Harlan County. Prewitt — who had three treys in the final period — finished with 13 points for the Colonels.
