Shelby Valley rolls into Sweet Sixteen

Junior guard Elisha Justice scored 27 points, and Shelby Valley routed Lawrence County 70-46 in the boys' 15th Region finals Monday night to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

Shelby Valley (30-4), No. 4 in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State, outscored Lawrence County (22-10) 46-21 in the second half at the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center to secure its fifth Sweet Sixteen trip in eight years.

Bowling Green 44, Russellville 41 (4th Region): Tevin Barksdale of Bowling Green (25-6) broke a 41-41 tie with a jumper with 1:37 to play, then tacked on a free throw en route to a game-high 17 points in the region semifinals at Western Kentucky.

Central 71, Fairdale 69 (6th Region): Junior forward Tim Patterson's layup at the buzzer lifted Central (15-14) to the region title game at Bellarmine. Alex Morrison scored 27 points for Central, which started the season 0-8 because some of its stars were still playing football.

Quintrell Morris scored 30 for Fairdale (19-11).

Shawnee 80, No. 20 Pleasure Ridge Park 69 (6th Region): Devon Thompson scored 23 points and Corey Jackson 22 as Shawnee (16-14) pulled the upset in the region semifinals at Bellarmine.

PRP (23-8) had won 10 games in a row.

No. 9 Eastern 63, Louisville Trinity 48 (7th): Senior guard Chris Dowe scored nine of his 14 points during a 22-8 fourth-quarter run that carried Eastern (29-2) to victory in the region semifinals at Bellarmine. Louisville Trinity (22-8) had 24 turnovers.

Hazard 68, Letcher Co. Central 56 (14th Region): Senior forward Robert Warren scored 15 points as Hazard (25-8) won in the semifinals at Powell County.
