High School Basketball



■ Casey Sorrell scored 35 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Simon Kenton edged Elizabethtown 66-65 in overtime at the KFC/Taco Bell Classic in Marion County. Chambers made a three-pointer with 1:47 to go to put the Pioneers (7-2) up for good and Sorrell made enough free throws at the end to hold off the Panthers, who trailed by as many as 12 points. Mitchell Henry paced the Panthers (2-7) with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Moore Mustang Classic

Doss slid past Shawnee 69-67 behind 27 points and 16 boards from 6-foot-8 center Montray Robertson. Guard Devon Thompson had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Shawnee.

■ Not a single three-pointer was made by either team, so Valley had to find other ways to beat Southern 57-54. Nate Williams had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Valley.


Paris-Bourbon Co. Holiday Classic

■ Bourbon County, one of the tournament hosts, easily got past West Jessamine 71-35 behind 19 points by freshman Kyle Hilander. Alyssa Craft added 16 points.

■ Jessica Coffey was one of three Somerset players in double figures with 18 points in a 73-47 rout of Harrison County at Paris.

■ At Paris, the Lady Hounds rolled over Prestonsburg 55-25, getting 16 points from junior Morgan Crain.

Letcher County Central won its seventh straight, 77-62 over Ballard Memorial behind balanced scoring with five players in double digits at Bourbon County. Shannon Bays led the way with 16 points.

Eastern had a 19-6 lead at the half and ran past Russell 49-24 behind senior Lauren Murphy's 11 points at Paris.

■ Petrea Mitchell scored 26 points to lead Nicholas County over Pineville 66-57 at Bourbon County. Shelby Sosby added 13 points.
