District highlights: Clark County boys win by 61 points in 40th

Clark County's starters played for only one quarter Tuesday night.

Turns out that's more than the Cardinals needed.

The state's seventh-ranked team and 10th Region favorite kicked off the post-season on its home court with a 108-47 victory over Bourbon County in the 40th District Tournament.

Junior forward Travis Purvis had the best stat line with 20 points and 10 rebounds, but this was a total team effort for the Cardinals.

Junior forward Vinny Zollo had all of his 12 points and 12 rebounds in the first quarter, when Clark County jumped out to a 38-8 lead. The Cards led 64-24 by halftime.

In all, 12 Cardinals scored, and four of those reached double figures.

Clark County will play Montgomery County in Thursday night's finals. The Cards won the two previous matchups by an average of 21 points.

Scott County 77, Sayre 40 (42nd): Senior guard Chad Jackson had 20 points, nine rebounds and four steals to lead the host Cardinals to a runaway victory. Austin Flannery added 16 points, and Tamron Manning had seven points, 13 rebounds and six assists for Scott County, which will play either Bryan Station or Henry Clay in Friday night's finals.

■ Scott County senior forward Dakotah Euton did not play in Tuesday's game. Euton has bronchitis and is expected to return for the district finals.

Elliott County 75, West Carter 71 (62nd): Junior forward Timmy Knipp scored 45 points, and the Lions needed a fourth-quarter comeback to stay alive in their quest for a return to the Sweet Sixteen. Underdog West Carter led 53-47 going into the fourth quarter of the district opener at Morgan County. The Lions will play East Carter in Friday's finals.

Shelby County 72, Eminence 40 (30th): Senior forward Donovan Johnson had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the host Rockets to a victory in their district opener. Shelby will play either Anderson County or Spencer County in Friday's championship game.

Girls' highlights

Scott County 57, Henry Clay 46 (42nd): Madisen Webb just missed a triple-double, and the Lady Cardinals dominated in the paint to eliminate the Lady Devils from the post-season.

Webb had 13 points, nine rebounds and nine assists to lead Scott County to its 10th consecutive victory. Tereka Guyn added 13 points for the Cards, who outscored Henry Clay 32-8 in the paint.

Henry Clay's Candace Morton led all players with 27 points and 11 rebounds.

Scott County will play the Bryan Station-Sayre winner in Friday's finals.

Woodford County 56, Western Hills 40 (41st): Junior guards Taylor Kelly and Alyssa Lucas made four three-pointers apiece, and the Lady Yellowjackets shot 9-for-18 from the behind the arc to knock out Western Hills at the Frankfort Civic Center. Kelly had 15, and Lucas finished with 12 for Woodford, which will face Franklin County in the district finals Thursday night.

Madison Central 65, Berea 24 (44th): Jenna Cornelison scored 13 points, and no Lady Indian played more than 13 minutes in an easy win at Eastern Kentucky's McBrayer Arena. Madison Central will take a 14-game winning streak into Friday's title game against Model. The Lady Indians (26-1) are 13-0 against 11th Region opponents this season.

Letcher County Central 59, June Buchanan 45 (53rd): Senior center Shannon Bays had 14 points and 16 rebounds to lead Letcher Central to a 59-45 win over the visiting Lady Crusaders. Senior center Maris Hovee had 20 points and 21 rebounds to lead June Buchanan. Letcher Central will play either Jenkins or Knott County Central in Friday's finals.
