High school basketball highlights: Jan. 7


■ Taylor Martin scored a game-high 28 points, and host Lexington Catholic never trailed in beating Lafayette 81-58. The Knights (13-2) shot 50.8 percent from the field and were the recipients of 25 Lafayette turnovers. Scott Schuette added three three-pointers and 19 points for Lexington Catholic, which outscored the Generals 42-25 in the second half. Dee Yarbrough led Lafayette with 20 points. Jackson Davis added 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting.

■ Junior guard Zach Perry scored 18 points, and Frankfort (11-5) surpassed last season's win total by beating host Williamstown 70-50. Frankfort's 11 wins are the most it's had in seven seasons.

■ Senior center Jake Giesler had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Newport Central Catholic (8-3) past Newport 73-37.


■ Alex Botkin led all players with 30 points and 14 rebounds, and host Lexington Catholic shot 68 percent in the second half to beat Lexington Christian 72-54. Lexington Catholic (7-8) outscored LCA 43-29 after halftime. Botkin went 12-for-17 from the field. Katelin Bundy had 15 points for LCA (7-4).

Whitley County senior forward LeeAnna Moses hit a three-pointer to send the game to overtime, but South Laurel (6-7) hung on in the extra period to win 52-49.
