High school basketball highlights: Dec. 9

BOYS

Sayre overcame a scoreless first quarter to beat visiting Kentucky Country Day 49-39, the Spartans' first victory of the season. Reid Freeman had a game-high 25 points for Sayre (1-3), which closed the game on a 25-10 run. Ray Brewer added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Blake Scinta had 11 points and 12 rebounds for Kentucky Country Day (1-4), which was held to 3-for-17 three-point shooting (17 percent).

■ Hunter Allen had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Kenjah Bosley added 19 points to lead Madison Central (4-0) to an 81-70 victory at Lafayette. Lafayette (0-3), which was held to nine points in the first quarter, had 31 turnovers, including 22 off Madison Central steals. Jackson Davis led Lafayette with 21 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Tranard Chester had 19 points.

■ Oscar Alamilla and Cameron Downey each scored 17 points to lead host Paris to a 68-53 win over Bath County.

GIRLS

Paul Dunbar outscored Tates Creek 17-6 in the fourth quarter and beat the host Commodores 59-50. Jordin Fender led Dunbar (2-1) with 18 points. Katie Pippen had 18 for Tates Creek (0-3).
