High school basketball highlights: Dec. 13

Boys

Lexington Catholic opened on a 13-3 run, led by as many as 19 points and finished with a 68-58 victory at home against Woodford County.

Jack Whitman scored 25 points and was 8-for-9 from the field and 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. He also had six rebounds and three blocks. The Knights' Tom Bahanan added 16 points and nine rebounds and Bryan Woomer had seven points, 13 assists and four steals.

David Greenwell led the Yellowjackets with 19 points.

Girls

Lexington Catholic used a 17-0 run to go up 21-4 and built the lead to 40-11 at halftime en route to a 76-34 victory against visiting Tates Creek.

The Lady Knights outscored the Lady Commodores 40-12 in the paint and were led by Alex Botkin's 18 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Rachel Blake (15 points, six rebounds) and Bonnie Rhule (13 points, seven rebounds) also scored in double figures for Lexington Catholic.

Payton Hisel had 11 points and seven rebounds for Tates Creek.

■ Rianna Gayheart had 18 points and eight assists, and Courtney Waldrop and Madison Gamble both had 12 rebounds in Owen County's 68-36 victory against visiting Gallatin County.

■ Michaela Hunter, a junior guard, scored 30 points in Rockcastle County's 70-52 victory at home against Estill County. The Lady Rockets trailed by four at halftime before using a 21-3 advantage in the third quarter to take control of the game.

■ Victoria Floyd scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in host Garrard County's 57-43 win against Boyle County. Kelly Smith added 20 points, and Devin Napier had 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Lady Lions.

■ Junior forward Courtney Sandlin scored 15 points, including the 1,000th of her career, in host Walton-Verona's 75-42 victory against Grant County.
