High school basketball highlights: Jan. 8

Boys

■ Dominique Hawkins scored 23 of his 28 points in the first half and Madison Central, ranked fifth in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State, won 92-73 at Conner.

Quan Taylor added 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Indians.

■ Nic McDonald hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 2:31 to play and Elizabethtown went on to defeat Daviess County 73-71 in Owensboro.

McDonald was 10-for-11 from the free-throw line and finished with 24 points. Logan O'Bryan was 5-for-6 from three-point range and scored a game-high 30 points to go with nine rebounds for Daviess County.

■ Jaylen Beckham scored 28 points to go with six rebounds, six assists and four steals in Bryan Station's 80-62 victory at Taylor County. Larry Morton added 16 points and five rebounds for the Defenders.

Scott County scored 21 points off 27 forced turnovers in a 64-45 victory against visiting Bell County. Trenton Gilbert led the Cardinals with 24 points and five rebounds. Tamron Manning added 18 points and seven rebounds.

■ Junior guard Matt Gordon scored 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter of Somerset's 60-50 victory against visiting Anderson County. It was the Bearcats' first loss of the season.

Girls

■ Ken'yale Demus scored 16 points, and Ashanti Thomas had 14 points and 12 rebounds in Lafayette's 62-54 win against Magoffin County in Paul Dunbar's MLK Classic. Jamie Castle scored 21 for the Lady Hornets.

■ Indya Raglin had five of No. 14 Paul Laurence Dunbar's 19 steals in a 74-35 victory against visiting Madison Southern in the MLK Classic. Raglin scored 17 points.

■ Kendall Noble had 12 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and seven steals in No. 4 Perry Central's 63-41 victory against Bryan Station in the MLK Classic.

■ Gabby Bowie had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots in Sayre's 47-40 victory against visiting Bethlehem. Maddie Mitchell led the Spartans in scoring with 17 and also had six rebounds and three steals.

McCreary Central's Candice Foster had 31 points, eight rebounds and six steals in a 72-36 victory at home against East Jessamine.

■ Peyton Hisel had 13 points, 14 rebounds and five steals in Tates Creek's 56-35 victory against visiting Nicholas County.
