High school basketball highlights: Jan. 15


Louisville Trinity, ranked first in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State, used a monster second half to overcome a one-point halftime deficit and roll to a 74-57 win over No. 12 Moore in the Louisville Invitational Tournament at Bellarmine.

The Shamrocks, who previously won the L.I.T. in 2005 and 2010, were led by tournament MVP Darryl Hicks. He scored 12 points.

■ Fifth-ranked Madison Central, the only unbeaten team in Kentucky, defeated Fleming County 88-70 in the MLK Classic at Clark County. Quan Taylor, a junior forward, led the way for the Indians with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Senior center Hunter Allen had 17 points and 15 rebounds.

■ Lexington Christian's Patrick Nickodem hit five three-pointers and finished with 23 points in Lexington Christian's 71-68 victory at West Jessamine. The Colts' Will Henderson also hit five three-pointers and ended up with 21 points.

North Oldham edged visiting Franklin County 59-58. David Levitch scored 23 points and had five steals for the Mustangs. Logan Woodside and Chris Roberts both scored 17 points for the Flyers.

■ Trenton Gilbert scored 17 points and No. 6 Scott County cruised past visiting Harlan 99-29. Matt Petterson and Josh Harris added 14 and 12 points, respectively, for the Cardinals.

■ Host Paul Laurence Dunbar's Will Gary scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 62-50 victory against Henry County in the S.T. Roach Classic.

■ Jaylen Beckham scored 15 points and Marcus Williams had 13 points and 10 rebounds in Bryan Station's 48-36 defeat of Owensboro in the S.T. Roach Classic at Paul Dunbar.

Bourbon County's Jacob Pitts hit two free throws with eight seconds left and Jonathan Scott took a charge to clinch a 55-53 victory against Berea in the S.T. Roach Classic at Paul Dunbar.

■ Senior center Adam Fatkin had 25 points and 14 rebounds in No. 13 Clark County's 71-46 victory against visiting Meade County in the MLK Classic.

East Jessamine senior guard Cameron Thomas, who scored 16 points, hit the game-winning layup with four seconds left in overtime in a 79-78 victory against Montgomery County.

Paris senior center Aaron Jacobs had 13 points and 17 rebounds in a 61-53 victory against visiting Fort Knox. Sophomore guard Cameron Downey, who was 5-for-8 from three-point range, scored 20 points.


■ Maddie Martin's three-pointer with 4:51 to play put No. 16 Ballard ahead for good in a 47-44 victory against Lexington Christian in the Shooting for the Cure at Male. Alex Martin led the Lady Bruins with 23 points and nine rebounds, and Maddie Martin had 11 points and eight rebounds. Katelin Bundy and Kristen Rinehart both scored 19 points for LCA, and Kristen Jacob added nine points and 18 rebounds.

■ Oney Harrison scored 24 points, including three three-pointers, in Tates Creek's 60-27 victory at Henry Clay.

■ Jasmine Whitfield scored 14 points and had nine rebounds in No. 7 South Oldham's 49-35 victory against No. 10 Butler in the Shooting for the Cure at Male.

Menifee County junior point guard Paige Warren had a triple-double — 26 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds — in a 73-45 victory against Rose Hill in the quarterfinals of the 16th Region All "A" Classic at Fairview.

■ Nicole Kiernan scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 18 Newport Central Catholic to a 40-24 victory against St. Henry in the 9th Region All "A" Classic finals at Newport.

■ Kelsey Adwell and Pleasure Ridge Park outdueled Jamie Cummings and Barren County in a 55-52 win in the Shooting for the Cure at Male. Adwell scored 28 points to go with nine rebounds for PRP. Cummings had 31 points and 14 rebounds for the Trojanettes.
