High school basketball highlights: Jan. 25


Madison Central, ranked sixth in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State, needed overtime to remain the only undefeated team in Kentucky. Dominique Hawkins scored a game-high 29 points and the Indians (21-0) defeated visiting Tates Creek (9-12) 70-65.

■ No. 21 Lafayette, which led by 10 early in the fourth quarter, held on for a 50-48 victory at home against Paul Laurence Dunbar. Nick Trisko and Charles Sweat-Washington both scored 14 points for the Generals and Trisko had 17 rebounds. Dunbar's William Gary and Mike Smith both scored 17.

■ No. 2 Scott County rolled to an 88-57 victory at Franklin County. Tamron Manning had 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for the Cardinals (17-3). Isaiah Ivey had 20 points and nine rebounds.

■ No. 1 Louisville Trinity hit all nine of its free throw-attempts in the fourth quarter and held off No. 4 Pleasure Ridge Park 79-70 on the road. Nathan Dieudonne scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Shamrocks (18-3).

■ Jaysean Paige hit six three-pointers and finished with 31 points and five blocked shots in No. 11 Perry County Central's 73-32 victory against visiting Leslie County. Dalton Cornett added seven points and 15 rebounds for the Commodores (17-4).

■ Adam Wing scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds in host Rowan County's 62-58 victory against No. 11 Clark County (19-3).

Burgin's Alex Beckerson scored 19 points in a 54-48 victory at Sayre. The Spartans' Ray Brewer had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

■ David Kapinga was 9-for-10 from the field and finished with 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals in No. 13 Southwestern's 79-50 victory against visiting West Jessamine.

■ Junior forward Omar Prewitt had 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in Montgomery County's 73-54 win at home against Augusta.

■ Sawyer Denniston, a senior guard, had 13 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists in Wolfe County's 75-65 home win against Model.


■ No. 17 Paul Laurence Dunbar's defense forced 28 turnovers and the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 75-37 victory at Lafayette. Morgan McEldowney led Dunbar (18-4) with 22 points and four rebounds.

■ Makayla Epps scored 44 points and No. 2 Marion County forced 35 turnovers in an 84-47 victory at Scott County.

Bryan Station led by one entering the fourth quarter, but No. 8 Anderson County (16-5) was able to pull out a 56-52 victory at home. Brittany Williams scored 19 points for the Lady Defenders.

■ Briana Lanham, Kristen Hayes and Callie Cook each scored 16 points in Madison Southern's 64-55 victory at home against Sayre. Lanham also had 10 rebounds and four steals. Maddie Mitchell led the Lady Spartans with 21 points.

■ China Dow scored 30 points and had 12 rebounds and four assists in No. 23 Louisville Christian's 63-42 victory against Pleasure Ridge Park in the Louisville Invitational Tournament at Bellarmine.

John Hardin's Michelle Montgomery scored a career-high 40 points and had 15 rebounds and five blocks in a 93-38 victory against visiting Fort Knox. Zacchea Small added 10 points and 18 assists for the Lady Bulldogs.

■ Sophomore Kayla Rankin scored a game-high 22 points in No. 4 Perry Central's 57-48 win at home against No. 23 Letcher Central.
