High school basketball: Region highlights

Louisville Trinity, ranked No. 1 in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State, jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead and cruised to a 63-44 victory against Male in the opening round of the 7th Region boys' tournament at Bellarmine University.

James Quick and Charles Foster scored 13 apiece for the Shamrocks (29-3).

No. 2 Pleasure Ridge Park 71, No. 9 Jeffersontown 65, OT (6th): Cortez Macklin hit a three-pointer early in overtime to put the Panthers ahead for good in a first-round matchup of top-10 teams at Atherton.

Max Clemons was 12-for-17 from the field for PRP (25-6). He scored 28 points to go with five rebounds. Macklin finished with 12 points, three rebounds and two blocks.

Desmond Dorsey had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Jeffersontown (21-11).

No. 7 Bullitt East 61, Fairdale 52 (6th): University of Kentucky commitment Derek Willis and the Chargers (25-4) trailed by eight late in the third quarter but outscored the Bulldogs (13-17) by 14 in the fourth to rally for a win at Atherton.

Willis had 14 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots for Bullitt East, and Trey Rakes had 18 points and nine assists.

No. 4 Moore 53, Doss 46 (6th): Mekale McKay scored 23 points and had seven rebounds and three steals to help the Mustangs (28-4) advance at Atherton. Daquan Boyd had 13 points and four steals.

Butler 68, Southern 57 (6th): The Bears jumped out to a 19-8 lead and held off the Trojans at Atherton.

Demetrius McReynolds hit three three-pointers and finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for Butler (19-10). Jalen Palm added 11 points and five assists.

Girls

No. 3 Perry Central 70, Jackson City 46 (14th): Katelin Smith scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds in the Lady Commodores' victory at Breathitt County. Kayla Rankin and Kendall Noble added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

No. 17 Clay Co. 49, Corbin 33 (13th): Cheyenne Madden had 13 points and 10 rebounds in the Lady Tigers' win in Corbin Arena. Alisha Mitchell had six points, nine assists and five rebounds for Clay County (29-5).

No. 10 Notre Dame 13, Highlands 8 (9th): The Bluebirds held the ball most of the game and didn't take a shot in the first or third quarters, but they didn't score until the fourth quarter and came up short against the Pandas at Northern Kentucky University.

Bell Co. 64, Knox Central 50 (13th): The Lady Cats used a 17-point edge in the fourth quarter to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit in Corbin Arena. Maci Moore led the Lady Cats with 32 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Paige Robbins had 12 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Panthers' Jenna Mills scored 20 points, including going 13-for-16 from the free-throw line. She also had five assists and three steals.

No. 6 Ryle 72, Dixie Heights 38 (9th): Ashley Cheesman scored 17 points and senior Dawn Johnson scored the 1,000th point of her career in the Lady Raiders' win at NKU.

Paintsville 45, Pike Central 37 (OT): Megan Jones scored 15 points and Andria Hansford had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Tigers in the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville. Kassidy Prater scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lady Hawks.
