High school basketball roundup: Scott County avoids upset

Scott County’s boys, second in Dave Cantrall’s Rating the State, and Bryan Station were tied at 61 until Raekwon Long scored with 13 seconds to go and added a free throw with four ticks left in the Cardinals’ 64-61 victory at home.

Scott County, which trailed by four early in the fourth quarter, was led by Tony Martini (22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists) and Trent Gilbert (22 points, 4-for-9 on threes). Long had 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Defenders got 19 points, six rebounds and three assists from Quan Claitt. Marcellous Washington hit four three-pointers and finished with 14 points as Bryan Station’s bench players outscored Scott County’s 27-4.

■ No. 8 Lafayette never trailed in a 68-53 victory at home against Lexington Christian. Jackson Davis scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Generals, and Lucky Jackson had 17 points, five steals and three assists. Davis, the Generals’ all-time leading scorer, scored his 2,000th point in the game.

Girls’ highlights:

■ Rebecca Cook’s big game — 31 points, 11 rebounds, five blocked shots, four steals and two assists — sent No. 4 Franklin County past visiting Woodford County 65-49.

■ Rachel Blake had 15 points (all on three-pointers), seven rebounds and three assists in Lexington Catholic’s 50-38 victory at Bryan Station. Bailey Browning added 10 points and six assists.

■ T’Laya Lyvers scored 10 points and had six steals in Henry Clay’s 37-25 victory at Knox Central.

■ Southwestern junior Adison Corder scored 26 points, including the 2,000th of her career, in a 69-37 victory over Pulaski County.

■ Eighth-grader Ally Niece scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Scott’s 69-65 win against visiting Conner.
