Four girls’ teams ranked in the top five in Dave Cantrall’s Rating the State reached the semifinals of the Louisville Invitational Tournament, and it was No. 3 Butler that came away with the title after defeating No. 5 Sacred Heart in the finals.
The Bearettes’ Micaiah Bowden provided the game-winner on a layup with 34 seconds left against the Valkyries, who had rallied to take the lead after trailing by 14 at halftime.
Danielle Lawrence, who got the assist on the winning shot, led Butler with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Sacred Heart star DaiJia Ruffin struggled from the field — 4-for-12 — and finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds and four assists. The Valkyries were led by Raven Merriweather’s 22 points and six rebounds.

Butler got to the finals with a 79-56 victory against Franklin County, tied with Sacred Heart and Simon Kenton at No. 5 in Cantrall’s ratings. Lawrence led the way with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Dasia Kilbourne paced four Lady Flyers in double figures with 15 points.
Sacred Heart knocked off top-ranked Anderson County 66-57 in the semifinals. Ruffin had 28 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks to counter Makenzie Cann’s 23 points and four steals.
■ Molly Manella’s layup with 25 seconds left proved to be the game-winner in Sayre’s 60-59 victory against host Nicholas County in the Bluegrass Conference Classic. Manella finished with 28 points, nine rebounds and three steals. The Lady Spartans also got 15 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots from Gabby Bowie. Megan Bretz had 17 points, five assists, four rebounds, four blocks and two steals for the Lady Jackets.
■ No. 11 Paul Dunbar’s Brooke Todd got her fourth triple-double of the season. She had 23 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocked shots in a 62-46 victory against visiting Lexington Christian.
■ Pikeville’s Rachel Potter also had a triple-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and five steals in a 58-27 win at home against Belfry.
■ Perry County Central’s Kayla Rankin scored 27 of her 29 points in the second half and also had 15 rebounds in a 76-49 win against visiting Knott County Central.
■ Sayre led by as many as 13 points before needing overtime to defeat Paris in the Bluegrass Conference Classic at Nicholas County. Justin Sanders scored five of his 20 points in OT and also had six rebounds for the Spartans. Quinn Pergande added 13 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.
■ Ryder Johnson hit a 15-footer from the left baseline at the buzzer to give Pikeville a 54-52 victory at Pike County Central.
