High school hoops highlights: Butler girls edge Henry Clay 51-49

Butler, ranked No. 2 in the Herald-Leader's preseason coaches' poll, led by 10 midway through the fourth quarter before having to hold on for a 51-49 victory over Henry Clay in the Bluegrass Cellular Classic at Central Hardin.

Jaelynn Penn scored 17 points and had four rebounds and three steals in the defending state champions' victory.

Lady Blue Devils star T'Laya Lyvers struggled from the field, going 2-for-13. She finished with 10 points, 18 rebounds and four steals.

■ Jenkins' Whitney Creech scored 64 points, but the Lady Cavaliers lost 95-93 to Clintwood (Va.).

■ Tiandra Hocker scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in Lincoln County's 68-64 win at home against Danville.

Boys' highlights

■ Henry Clay led by 22 at halftime en route to a 70-47 rout against Central in Louisville. Isaiah Tisdale led the way with 17 points, five rebounds and four steals.

The Blue Devils' defense forced 25 turnovers.

■ Hines Jones scored 26 points, including going 10-for-12 at the free-throw line, in Scott County's 60-51 win in overtime at Oldham County.

■ Covington Catholic overcame a slow start to roll to a 70-37 victory against Highlands. The Colonels, who led 7-6 after one quarter, got 19 points from Cooper Theobald and 17 apiece from Cole VonHandorf and Bo Schuh. Schuh also had nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.

■ Timmy Taylor had 15 points and 10 assists and Lincoln County improved to 12-1 after a 71-53 victory at home against Danville.
