Defending state champion Covington Catholic needed overtime to defeat Newport 57-49 in the 9th Region quarterfinals.
The Colonels' Cole VonHandorf was 11-for-12 at the free-throw line and finished with a game-high 24 points. Andy Flood added 15 points and five rebounds. Ethan Snapp led the Wildcats with 20 points.
■ Peyton Woods hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Wayne County a 61-58 overtime win over West Jessamine in the 12th Region quarterfinals at Lincoln County. Woods and Trey Blevins both finished with 21 points for the Cardinals.
■ University of Kentucky signee Maci Morris was 10-for-21 from the field and 12-for-13 at the line, scoring 33 points and blocking three shots to lead Bell County to a 74-57 win against North Laurel in the 13th Region semifinals at Corbin. Jessica Sanders added 19 points and four assists. North Laurel got 19 points, 15 rebounds and four assists from Kayla Bruner.
■ Jordan Brock and Brooklyn Massingill scored 22 and 20 points, respectively, to lead Harlan past Clay County 50-45 in the 13th Region semifinals at Corbin. Courtney Woods had 16 points and 16 rebounds in the Tigers' loss.
■ Lindsey Duvall's double-double — 27 points and 13 rebounds — sent Bullitt East past North Bullitt 64-41 in the 6th Region semifinals at Valley.
■ Reserve Kassidy Kiesel was perfect from the field, going 6-for-6 with one three-pointer and scoring a game-high 17 points in Mercy's 72-33 rout of Pleasure Ridge Park in the 6th Region semifinals at Valley.
