Perry County Central junior Braxton Beverly, who figured to be among the top contenders for Mr. Basketball next year, will transfer to Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia for his senior season.
Perry Central Coach Shannon Hoskins said Beverly called him Sunday night to give him the news. "He'd been thinking about it for about two or three weeks, so it wasn't a surprise."
Beverly, a 5-foot-11 point guard, averaged 26 points and 7 assists this past season, and 20 points and 7 assists as a sophomore. He led the Commodores to the 14th Region title as a seventh-grader.
Beverly has scholarship offers from Western Kentucky, Samford, Miami (Ohio), Belmont, Ball State and Cleveland State, among others.
"We'll miss him a ton," Hoskins said. "He handles the ball so well and controls the tempo of the game, that's what he does best for you."
