Lafayette had a chance to pull off a miracle finish against Tates Creek last week but couldn't make the big play in the final seconds and lost a 32-27 heartbreaker.
The Generals had another close call Saturday night, but once again came up just short as they lost to Louisville Central 25-19 in the iHigh Footbally Frenzy at Henry Clay.
Lafayette drove from its own 25 to the Central 1-yard line as time was ticking away, but it couldn't punch into the end zone.
Central stopped Shamon Brown shy of the goal line as time expired.
That defensive stop spoiled a clutch closing drive by the Generals. Brown got it going with a 32-yard run, and quarterback Jeremy Smith hooked up with Tanner Napier on a 31-yard pass play.
But Central's defense was rock-solid inside the 5-yard line.
Central, a powerhouse in Class 3A, showed again it can step up to the challenge of facing 6A competition.
Central's first six games this year are against 6A opponents. It lost to Seneca last week, and its upcoming schedule has top-10 teams Ballard, Male, Manual and St. Xavier.
The Jackets had to battle to beat Lafayette.
They broke a 19-19 tie in the closing seconds of the third quarter when Branden Todd scored from the 2. Tajh Milliken's 61-yard pass to Devonte Yelder set up the go-ahead score.
Anthony Wales, who ran for 339 yards and four touchdowns against Seneca, flashed his speed and moves against Lafayette.
The junior standout had an 80-yard TD run early in the second half, and finished the night with 158 yards and two TDs on 24 carries.
Lafayette was led by Bubba Johnson and Brown, who combined for 120 yards rushing.
Napier had six catches for 124 yards. Smith was 8-for-12 passing for 127 yards.
Senior quarterback Matt Britt, who has been out with a knee injury and wasn't expected back for a few more weeks, saw limited action. He completed seven of nine passes for 98 yards, including a 15-yard TD to Nick Jeter.
