Spotlight Lexington announces performers for WEG

The city has announced new performers and sponsors for Spotlight Lexington, the festival Lexington is planning for evening and weekend entertainment during the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games from Sept. 25 to Oct. 10.

Entertainers who will perform at the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza include:

■ Laura Bell Bundy, Lindy Franklin, and Jason Heymann, all of Lexington, plus singer and actor J.C. Montgomery, who hails from Kentucky, will perform Monday, Oct. 4.

Bundy is also performing Oct. 1. The evening will begin with performances from Heather Parrish, Broadway Bound, the Academy of Creative Excellence, SCAPA and Summerfest.

■ Three-time Grammy winner and Bowling Green native Sam Bush will perform Friday, Oct. 8, following Bluegrass musicians J.D. Crowe and the New South.

■ The Lexington Philharmonic will perform Sunday, Oct. 3, after the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra warms up the crowd.

■ The Kentucky Ballet Academy, Kentucky Ballet Theater, Lexington Ballet School and Lexington Ballet Company will perform Saturday, Oct. 9, before welcoming Los Angeles' Lula Washington Dance Theater and Louisville's River City Drum Corps.

No public money is involved in Spotlight Lexington, Newberry said, as he thanked local businesses for "stepping forward to help us put together a great festival."

The presenting sponsor is St. Joseph Health System. Newberry also announced several new sponsors:

■ Applebee's, official bar and grill sponsor; cash sponsorship valued at more than $50,000.

■ Don Jacobs, official car dealership; sponsorship valued at $50,000.

■ Valvoline, official volunteer sponsor; cash sponsorship, $30,000.

■ Lynn Imaging, official print partner; printing and signage.
