Gracyn Preston of Lexington checked out Life Cycles, a foal at the Lexington Public Library's Tates Creek Branch. "Gracyn is my husband's grandniece. She is 3 years old and she loves horses. She wants to ride one," said Kitty Preston. Life Cycles is Tates Creek Elementary's entry in Horse Play, an offshoot of Horse Mania.

It's clear to anyone who has been downtown this summer that Horse Mania 2010, featuring 83 decorated fiberglass horses, has been enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

We asked readers to post photos at Kentucky.com of themselves and/or their families and friends with the horses, and here's a sampling.

But we're looking for more. The Herald-Leader is sponsoring a photo contest of Horse Mania photos, and you could win a digital camera. Submit as many as four photos by Sept. 17. A panel of judges will select photos that will then be posted on Kentucky.com from Sept. 29 to Oct. 13 for voting by viewers. Go to Kentucky.com for rules.

Horse Mania 2010, a project of LexArts, is on display through October.

For a guide and map, pick up a Herald-Leader Horse Mania special section for $1 at newspaper racks around town or in the front lobby of the newspaper at 100 Midland Avenue.
