Keeneland is increasing purses on two key Breeders' Cup prep races, the Oct. 8 Woodford Stakes and the Oct. 9 Bourbon Stakes. Purses for both Grade III turf races will go from $100,000 to $150,000.
"These two races are emerging as top (Breeders' Cup) prep races so we're glad to be able to augment them," said Rogers Beasley, vice president of racing.
The 51/2-furlong Woodford Stakes is for 3-year-olds and up. In 2010, Chamberlain Bridge prepped in the Woodford before winning the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. The mile-and-a-sixteenth Bourbon is for 2-year-olds and serves as a prep for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.
