Creatine wins 3rd leg of Trotting's Triple Crown

Hall of Fame driver Mike Lachance won his fourth total, and second straight, Kentucky Futurity title, piloting Creatine to his seventh win in 14 starts for trainer Bob Stewart.

Sunday's $527,000 race at The Red Mile is the third leg of Trotting's Triple Crown and pushed Creatine's 2013 earnings to $481,189.

Fourteen of the sport's finest 3-year-old male trotters competed. Diamond Creek Racing's Creatine, who finished second in his first heat elimination, came charging down the lane in the $368,900 second heat final and held off All Laid Out at the wire.

First heat winner Royalty For Life set the pace as Creatine bided his time in fourth.

Your So Vain was the first to move as he came first over at the three-quarter pole to engage Royalty For Life. But it was Creatine who had the most trot in the lane.

Lachance moved him to the front, then held off a late rush from All Laid Out and driver David Miller to capture the crown.

Spider Blue Chip was third.
