Ramseys top leading Thoroughbred breeders list for 2014; Adena Springs second

For a second consecutive year, Ken and Sarah Ramsey topped the individual breeders list in North America in 2014 with $10,412,411 in earnings, according to statistics released Tuesday by The Jockey Club. The Nicholasville-based Ramseys bred the winners of 264 races from 1,771 starts.

Adena Springs, based in Paris, finished second again for 2014 with $9,617,995 in earnings and 313 winners from 1,949 starts.

Darley led the breeders list that includes partnerships with 219 wins from 1,304 starts for earnings of $11,549,136. The Ramseys were second on that list with $10,504,685 in earnings and 266 winners from 1,792 starts.

Rounding out the list of top-10 individual breeders were WinStar Farm LLC, $6,897,879 (174 wins/1,138 starts); Darley, $6,713,009 (136/ 777); Brereton C. Jones, $4,987,481 (221/1,387); Winchell Thoroughbreds, $4,725,771 (31/180); Liberation Farm & Brandywine Farm, $4,579,105 (122/857); Pam and Martin Wygod, $4,504,807 (76/477); Helen Alexander, $4,436,640 (8/28); and Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC, $4,412,142 (87/602).

Completing the list of top-10 breeders including partnerships were Adena Springs, $10,173,596 (335 wins/2,103 starts); Winstar Farm LLC, $7,659,960 (212/1,321); Brereton C. Jones, $5,929,699 (265/1,683); Liberation Farm, $5,591,159 (177/1,167); Brandywine Farm, $5,444,316 (160/1,144); Claiborne Farm, $5,216,083 (133/718), Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC, $5,168,129 (103/708), and W.S. Farish, $4,901,072 (166/1,085).
