Coming up: Live racing resumes Wednesday with a field of 10 entered for the Grade III Jessamine Stakes for 2-year-old fillies going 11⁄16 miles on the turf.

Final furlong

In the race preceding the Grade I Juddmonte Spinster, 23-to-1 shot Poker Player rallied late for a 1-length victory in the $150,000 Bourbon, a race that was taken off the turf and run at 11⁄16 miles on the main track.

Because of the surface switch, the race lost its designation as a "Win and You're In" race for the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.

Trained by Wayne Catalano and ridden by Channing Hill, Poker Player covered the distance in 1:43.46 in the Bourbon. The son of Harlan's Holiday was coming into the race having broken his maiden second time out going one mile at Kentucky Downs on September 14. "He worked very well on the Polytrack, he was getting better each time," said Catalano. "I'm sure the owners will want to go to the Breeders' Cup (Juvenile Turf)."
