Looking good at Derby for a lot less: It's not that difficult

Amid all the recent economic angst, to spend too much money on a Derby outfit would be a bit too unsightly.

But the first Saturday in May is a party not to be missed, and truth be told, true style has less to do with cash and more with knowing where to shop and how to put all the pieces together.

Here in Lexington, in one afternoon, I was able to round up plenty of affordable yet stylish items to create a knockout Derby Day outfit — recession or not.

Check out area consignment shops (I tried Stephen Lawrence Ltd. on South Broadway). Discounters Target and Gordmans offer adorable accessories for not a lot of money. And this time of year, many stores, whether local boutiques or national chains, offer spring sale prices.
