Through Sunday, Johnson was hitting .272, leading Kannapolis in homers (9), RBI (38), games (70) and, painfully, being hit by a pitch (10). He is hitting .230 with bases empty, .330 with runners on and .359 with runners on and two out. After going hitless in his first three games against the Legends (0-for-10), he has hits in each of the last five meetings (7-for-20).
Legend to watch: OF Brandon Barnes (6-3, 225, from Orange, Calif.) took an 11-game hitting streak into Monday's game, going 14-for-42 (.333). Barnes played 25 games for the Legends, hitting only .121 when he was sent to extended spring training on May 14. He has hits in all 10 games since being recalled June 8, raising his average to .188. He is 9-for-28 (.321) with runners on and two out. A 2005 sixth-round draft pick out of Cyprus College, he led Tri-City with 10 homers last season and was named team MVP.
