Power to watch: SS Chase D'Arnaud (6-foot-1, 175 pounds, from Long Beach, Calif.) is ninth in the South Atlantic League with a .368 batting average (through Wednesday). Selected by the Pirates in the fourth round of last June's draft, spent two years at third base for Pepperdine before switching to shortstop last year. Through Wedneday, D'Arnaud was 7-for-19, including three doubles, with four RBI. He is batting .167 against left-handers, .462 versus righties.
Legend to watch: OF Brandon Barnes (6-2, 210, from Orange, Calif.) entered play Thursday with the fifth-best batting average in the SAL, .421 (8-for-19). Selected by the Astros in the sixth round of the 2005 draft, out of Cypress College, Barnes is a perfect 5-for-5 against left-handers and 3-for-14 (.214) versus righties. His OPS (on-base plus slugging percentages) is a gaudy 1.003 (.476 on-base, .526 slugging).
