GreenJacket to watch: CF Wendell Fairley (6-foot-2, 190 pounds, from Lucedale, Miss.) was the last of three first-round draft picks the San Franciso Giants had in 2007, going 29th overall out of George County High School. A high ankle sprain last spring held him back. Rated by Baseball America as the 22nd best prospect and the "best athlete" in the Giants system, Fairley is hitting .224 over his first 16 games with Augusta. However, over his last nine game, he's batting .346 (9-for-26), scoring five times.
Legend to watch: RHP Ashton Mowdy (6-0, 185, from Mustang, Okla.) joined the Legends on Thursday, called up from extended spring training. He threw a perfect inning of relief in his debut against Rome, striking out one. Selected by the Astros in the 19th round of last June's draft, out of Eastern Oklahoma State Junior College, Mowdy was 4-3 with one save and a 4.10 ERA for Tri-City last season. Two of his 21 appearances were starts. He struck out 48 and walked 21 over 41 2/3 innings.
