Chris Wade, a former Lexington Christian and University of Kentucky star, had two doubles and knocked in a run in his debut for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, who defeated the Lexington Legends 9-2 Sunday afternoon at Applebee's Park.
Wade, who started the season with Class A Advanced Jupiter in the Florida State Leagues, started at shortstop and drove in Greensboro's first run with a double in the second inning. His other double came in the fourth.
The Grasshoppers took control of the game with four runs in the third. Justin Bass, a Fort Knox native, scored one of those runs on a single by Rand Smith. Former WKU star Chad Cregar scored another on a single by Tom Hickman, who had four RBI. Cregar, who had three hits, also had an RBI single in the ninth.
The Legends' Kody Hinze knocked in his South Atlantic League-leading 31st run of the season in the third inning.
Greensboro starter Matt Montgomery (3-3) pitched eight innings and allowed six hits and two runs. He struck out three and walked one.
