Legends win 6-4, even series with Shorebirds

The Lexington Legends built a 6-1 lead, then held on to beat the Delmarva Shorebirds 6-4 on Monday night in Salisbury, Md. The victory evened the series at two games apiece with one to go on Tuesday night.

The Legends took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Barry Butera led off with a double and scored on a groundout by Grant Hogue. Hogue scored on a double by Jimmy Paredes, who had three hits in the game. Paredes made it home on a single by Ben Heath.

With the score 3-1 and two outs in the seventh, Jiovanni Mier and Paredes singled, putting runners at first and third. After Paredes stole second, Jacob Goebbert doubled to deep right to score two runs.

Brian Kemp singled in Aaron Bray for the Legends' final run in the eighth.

Delmarva scored a run in the eighth and two in the ninth to close the gap.

Legends starter Zach Grimmett (5-2) pitched seven strong innings to get the win. He allowed four hits and one run, walked one batter and struck out seven. Kirk Clark picked up his 25th save, adding to his Legends' single-season and career record.
