4-run first ignites Legends over Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Jonathan Meyer's two-run homer highlighted a four-run first inning Saturday night and helped send the Lexington Legends to a 7-6 win over the Augusta GreenJackets.

Jiovanni Mier had three of Lexington's nine hits and scored three runs. Jake Goebbert and Kody Hinze had two hits and two RBI apiece.

Legends left-hander Luis Cruz (7-3) gave up a three-run homer to Thomas Joseph in the first inning. Joseph added an eighth-inning sacrifice against Legends reliever Wander Alvino.

Kirk Clark notched his 27th save despite giving up two runs in the ninth.

Mier got the first-inning assault going with a one-out double, scoring on Goebbert's single. Hinze doubled in Goebbert, then scored on Meyer's second homer of the season.

Goebbert doubled in a run in the third, eventually scoring on Meyer's groundout.

Hinze had an RBI-double in the fifth.
