Alaniz's third straight win carries Legends past Augusta

Ruben Alaniz earned his third straight victory, and Mike Kvasnicka and Jiovanni Mier had RBI singles in the Lexington Legends' 2-1 win over the Augusta GreenJackets on Wednesday in Augusta, Ga.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Ben Orloff hit a leadoff single, went to second on a groundout by Mier and scored on Kvasnicka's two-out single.

The Legends made it 2-0 in the seventh. Emilio King walked and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jhonny Medrano, then scored on Mier's two-out single.

Augusta answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Adam Duvall walked and, one out later, advanced to third on a Ryan Scoma single. Rafael Rodriguez's sacrifice fly made it 2-1.

Duvall, a former University of Louisville star who leads the South Atlantic League in homers, nearly tied it in the bottom of the ninth. But his long fly to deep left field was caught by Enrique Hernandez just short of the wall. Duvall had homered in each of the first three games of the series.

Alaniz (5-4) pitched 62⁄3 innings and allowed four hits and one run. Gabriel Garcia pitched 12⁄3 innings of relief, and Jorge DeLeon pitched the ninth for his eighth save.
