Legends' Foltynewicz strikes out nine to shut down Savannah

Right-hander Michael Foltynewicz allowed one run and struck out nine over six innings, and the Legends' offense played small ball to grind out a 7-1 win over the Savannah Sand Gnats at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Thursday night.

The only real stain on Foltynewicz's stat line was a home run by Savannah's Jet Butler. Foltynewicz (5-7) allowed four hits and walked two.

Lexington provided more than enough offense, though only two hits went for extra bases — doubles by Delino DeShields Jr. and Ben Heath. The Legends had six singles and walked eight times. Three players walked twice — Telvin Nash, Enrique Hernandez and Ben Orloff.

The Legends scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the eighth. Tyler Burnett's RBI single in the fourth gave them a 1-0 lead they never relinquished.

Legends to sign autographs

Legends players will be at Fayette Mall near Dillard's on Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. to sign autographs and meet with fans. Baseball cards and a poster-size full sheet of the 2011 cards will be available for purchase and signing.

"This is a great chance for the fans of central Kentucky to meet the players face to face and get any autographs they need," Legends box office manager David Barry said.
