Lexington Legends owner Alan Stein was recognized as one of Ballpark Digest's Executives of the Year for his work as president/owner of the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Web site announced Tuesday.
Stein and Storm Chasers vice president Martie Cordaro were honored for building a new ballpark and rebranding the Kansas City Royals' affiliate in Omaha, Neb.
Werner Park in suburban Papillion opened this year with a seating capacity of 9,023, according to its Web site. The average attendance this season, as of Monday, is 6,009 per game, up from 5,652 last year at Rosenblatt Stadium, the Omaha World Herald reported. The Storm Chasers, previously nicknamed the Royals, are in first place in the Pacific Coast League's American Northern division.
Ballpark Digest also recognized Stein for building a privately financed stadium in Lexington, renamed Whitaker Bank Ballpark this year, calling it "one of the most successful ballparks in minor-league baseball."
