RiverDogs halt Legends' four-game winning streak

The Lexington Legends returned home to start a seven-game homestand Tuesday and, and they promptly had their four-game winning streak halted.

The Charleston (S.C.) RiverDogs scored three runs in the second inning and one more in the third and that was enough to produce a 4-1 victory at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Reymond Nunez' two-run single broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the second inning, and pitching dominated after that.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Delino DeShields Jr. led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a single by Alex Todd.

Charleston took the lead for good in the top of the second. An error and singles by Gary Sanchez and Angelo Gumbs loaded the bases and a walk to Cito Culver forced in a run. Nunez followed with a single to right field, scoring Sanchez and Gumbs and giving the RiverDogs a 3-1 lead.

Former Western Kentucky pitcher Philip Wetherell got his third save for the RiverDogs. He has a 0.75 ERA in six appearances.

■ Infielder John Hinson and outfielder Chris Epps joined the Legends from extended spring training on Tuesday. Infielder Tyler Burnett was released, and pitcher Scott Zuloaga was placed on the inactive list.
