Kannapolis lefty holds Legends to one hit in shutout

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Kannapolis pitcher Blair Walters allowed one hit and no runs through the first seven innings as the Intimidators shut out the Lexington Legends 5-0 Thursday night in Kannapolis.

Kannapolis took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on back-to-back doubles by Rangel Ravelo and Leighton Pangilinan.

The Intimidators added four runs with five singles in the third inning. Mark Haddow's single knocked in two and then he scored on a base hit by Ravelo, who had four hits in four at-bats.

Walters, a left-hander, took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but with two outs Delino DeShields Jr. lined a clean single to right field for Lexington's only hit of the game.

Walters (2-2) got the victory. He faced only 23 batters, just two more than the minimum for seven innings. He struck out nine batters.

Bryan Blough pitched two innings of scoreless relief.

Legends starter Nick Tropeano (2-3) was the losing pitcher, allowing five runs and 10 hits in six innings, though he struck out eight.
