Right-hander Christian Binford, who pitched for the Lexington Legends in 2013, has been named the Kansas City Royals Minor League Pitcher of the Year for 2014.
Binford pitched at three levels in 2014. He started the season at Advanced-A Wilmington (Carolina League) and was promoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas (Texas League) before finishing the season at Triple-A Omaha (Pacific Coast League), where he started the final game in the Triple-A championship series, won by Omaha.
Binford's overall record was 8-7 with an earned-run average of 2.88. He struck out 139 batters and walked 22 in 26 appearances (22 starts).
Binford was with Lexington for the entire 2013 season, and was 8-7 with an ERA of 2.67. In 23 starts, he pitched 135 innings, struck out 130 and walked 25.
