Anthony Bowman turned in the first award score of the new bowling season, rolling an 833 series in the James R. Wafford Memorial League at Collins Bowling Centers-Southland on Monday.
Bowman posted games of 289-278-266 in his series. Bowman one strike shy of perfection in his first and second games.
Kenny Stephens also came close, rolling a 290 in the Wafford League. The next night, Darrel Hunt fell one pin short with a 299.
Award scores in the LABA were down last season with fewer league bowlers than in the past and with the USBC dropping the 298 and 299 games as award scores. However, the number of 11-in-a-row awards were up because all of the 298s and 299s qualified for that award.
