Justin Stommes scored 28 points to lead five Eastern Kentucky players in double figures as the Colonels rolled to a season-opening 102-71 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday night in Richmond.
The Colonels shot 63.3 percent from the field (38-for-60) behind Stommes, who was 10-for-14 from the field in 29 minutes. Josh Taylor, Eastern Kentucky's leading returning scorer from last year, went 7-for-11 from field for 19 points.
Josh Daniel scored 14 points, Papa Oppong added 13 and Joshua Jones finished with 10 points for Eastern Kentucky, which has won 12 consecutive home openers, dating to 1997-98.
Murray State 92, Missouri-St. Louis 54: Ivan Aska scored 20 points to lead Murray State to a win at home. Aska was a perfect 9-for-9 from the field for the Racers (1-1). Tony Easley added 10 points and seven rebounds for Murray.

Cornell 71, Alabama 67: Ryan Wittman scored 23 points and made 5 of 8 three-pointers to help Cornell beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., spoiling Anthony Grant's Crimson Tide coaching debut. Cornell's 7-foot center, Jeff Foote, finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. JaMychal Green led the Tide with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
No. 11 Butler 73, Davidson 62: Gordon Hayward scored 17 points and Willie Veasley added 15 to lead Butler to a win in Indianapolis. Shelvin Mack (Bryan Station) added seven points and four assists for Butler (1-0).
Notre Dame 86, North Florida 65: Ben Hansbrough scored 19 points in his Notre Dame debut and Luke Harangody added 19 points and seven assists, leading the Fighting Irish at South Bend, Ind. Hansbrough, a transfer Mississippi State, was 5-for-5 from three-point range.
Oklahoma State 86, Seattle 64: Foul trouble limited former Kentucky player Matt Pilgrim to two points and two rebounds in 10 minutes in his debut for host Oklahoma State.
Mid-Continent 89, Campbellsville 88 (OT): Marvin Bolden hit two free throws with half a second left in overtime to give Mid-Continent a win on the road in the Lou Cunningham Classic. The Tigers' Shawn Savage (Bowling Green) hit a three-pointer as time expired to send the game into overtime. He finished with six three-pointers and 22 points.
Western Kentucky 57, Eastern Kentucky 54: Freshman Courtney Clifton (Lexington Christian) came off the bench to hit 6 of 9 three-pointers and score 22 points for the Lady Toppers at Bowling Green. Amy McNear added 15 points and three assists and Arnika Brown (Christian County) had eight points and 13 rebounds. Collette Cole (Breathitt County) led EKU with 12 points and five rebounds.
Union 90, Morris (S.C.) 75: Kara Pile (Fairdale) scored a season-high 22 points in a win at the Tennessee Wesleyan College Classic.
