Curlin's first foal born

Two-time horse of the year Curlin has produced his first foal, Lane's End Farm announced in a statement Friday.

The statement said the filly out of the broodmare Zophie was born Tuesday at Burleson Farms near Midway.

Curlin's winnings of $10.5 million passed Cigar's to make him North America's richest racehorse in history. His career included wins in the Breeders' Cup Classic, Preakness Stakes, Jockey Club Gold Cup, Stephen Foster Handicap and Dubai World Cup.

Curlin has been at Lane's End Farm since finishing fourth in the 2008 Breeders' Cup Classic, which was the last race of his career.

Curlin's value as a stallion became a subject of a civil case brought against his original owners, lawyers William Gallion and Shirley Cunningham Jr. They have been sentenced to federal prison and ordered to pay $127 million in restitution for defrauding hundreds of clients in a diet-drug settlement.17-year-old jockey wins at Santa Anita
