Morehead, Murray men advance in OVC Tournament

Kenneth Faried scored 24 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to lead host Morehead State to an 87-54 rout over Jacksonville State on Tuesday night in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. Faried, who had eight offensive rebounds, was 10-for-17 from the floor for the second-seeded Eagles (22-9).

Morehead scored 15 straight points in the first half to claim a 19-2 lead. Ty Proffitt's driving layup gave the Eagles a 37-9 advantage with 2:42 left before halftime.

Morehead State shot 48 percent from the floor (28-for-58.

Murray State 84, Tennessee State 71: Ivan Aska scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures in Murray's home win in the first round. Isaiah Canaan added 13 points, Tony Easley 12, Danero Thomas 11 and B.J. Jenkins 10 for the Racers (28-4), who improved to 15-0 at home this season. The Racers', ranked No. 1 in the OVC in field goal percentage (50.9), shot 57.1 percent from the field (32-for-56), 50 percent from three-point range (9-for-18) and went 11-for-11 from the free-throw line.

Eastern Illinois 68, Eastern Kentucky 61: T.J. Marion scored 15 points, and the host Panthers outrebounded the Colonels 30-14 to advance. Justin Stommes led EKU with 14 points.


Morehead State 95, Murray State 90: Morehead State (22-9) set the school NCAA-era record for wins in a season when it defeated visiting Murray State. Chynna Bozeman scored a career-high 39 points and dished out a season-high eight assists for the Eagles.

Murray State's Kayla Lowe hit seven of her team's 15 three-pointers and finished with a career-high 28 points.

Tennessee-Martin 51, Eastern Kentucky 47: The host Skyhawks rallied to advance after the Colonels took a 23-18 first-half lead.
