Saginaw bowler wins Bradley Open

Dan MaClelland of Saginaw, Mich., captured the 32nd Bradley Open tournament at Collins Bowling Centers-Eastland on Jan. 9. MaClelland defeated Austin Bould of Creal Springs, Ill., in the best two-out-of-three finals.

In the finals Bould took the first game 196 to 172, then MaClelland won the next two 188-182 and 227-143. The victory came with a first prize of $4,300 and a paid entry to the 2012 USBC Masters Tournament. Bould collected $2,100 for his second-place finish.

The tournament drew 178 bowlers from 11 states and featured a total prize fund of $25,000. The best finish by a Lexington bowler was 37th by Antonio Medina. The last winner from Kentucky was Tony Lambert of Louisville in 2000. The last winner from the Lexington area was Mike Fairchild of Nicholasville in 1991 and the last winner from Lexington was Danny Hensley in 1982. Lexington Area Bowling Association hall of fame member Bill Carrithers bowled again this year and he is the only person to have competed in all 32 tournaments.

Feb. 1: Entry deadline for the 66th Lexington Women's Bowling Association Tournament. The event will be held Feb. 19 and 20 and Feb. 26 at Capital Bowl in Frankfort. The entry fee is $22 per bowler per event.

Feb. 12: The 71st LABA tournament begins. The tournament continues on Feb. 13 and concludes Feb. 19-20. The entry closes one hour before the start of the final squad in each event if lanes are available. The tournament will be held at Collins Bowling Centers-Southland.
